The field is made of AstroTurf GameDay Grass, which replaced the AstroTurf that was original to the stadium. The stadium originally had a capacity of 80,020, however the capacity was reduced in 1998 as a part of the Bills lease renewal with Erie County, New York. The stadium at that time was refitted with larger seats and more luxury and club seating. The lease agreement also stipulated that Erie County would continue to upgrade the stadium; in summer 2007 a new High Definition Mitsubishi LED board measuring 88.8′ by 32.5′ and ribbon boards were installed. Total cost for the project was $5.2 million. The new scoreboard replaced the old 41.5′ by 31.5′ Sony JumboTron installed 13 years earlier for $8 million (including inflation). The falls lie on the border between Ontario, Can., and New York state, U.S. For many decades the falls were an attraction for honeymooners and for such stunts as walking over the falls on a tightrope or going over them in a barrel. Increasingly, however, the appeal of the site has become its beauty and uniqueness as a physical phenomenon.

The falls are in two principal parts, separated by Goat Island. The larger division, adjoining the left, or Canadian, bank, is Horseshoe Falls; its height is 185 feet (56 m), and the length of its curving crest line is about 2,200 feet (670 m). Standing 305 feet (93 metres) high including its pedestal, it represents a woman holding a torch in her raised right hand and a tablet bearing the adoption date of the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776) in her left. The torch, which measures 29 feet (8.8 metres) from the flame tip to the bottom of the handle, is accessible via a 42-foot (12.8-metre) service ladder inside the arm (this ascent was open to the public from 1886 to 1916). An elevator carries visitors to the observation deck in the pedestal, which may also be reached by stairway, and a spiral staircase leads to an observation platform in the figureΓÇÖs crown. Shea, who spearheaded the drive to bring National League baseball back to New York following the departure of the Dodgers and Giants in 1957. – Official Site

New York Mets Official Site

Major League Baseball Official Site

Click on the pictures for a Bird’s Eye View or an Aerial View using Virtual Earth

Looking for more?  Check out the rest of our Stadium Aerial Views or narrow it down to only the Baseball Stadium Aerial Views

Technorati Tags: MLB,Baseball,Stadium,Virtual Earth,New York Mets,Shea Stadium

New York Yankees – Yankee Stadium Aerial View

Featured

New York

Stadiums

Baseball

MLB

New York Yankees

Stadium

Virtual Earth

Yankee Stadium II 161 Street and River Avenue, Bronx Opened: April 15, 1976, an 11-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins Capacity: 57,545 Upon its opening, Yankee Stadium soon came to be known as “The House that Ruth Built”, a play on the nursery rhyme “The House that Jack Built”, and in reference to the Yankees’ [...]

Yankee Stadium II
161 Street and River Avenue, Bronx
Opened: April 15, 1976, an 11-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins
Capacity: 57,545

Upon its opening, Yankee Stadium soon came to be known as “The House that Ruth Built”, a play on the nursery rhyme “The House that Jack Built”, and in reference to the Yankees’ star player, Babe Ruth. Ruth’s power as a drawing card had enabled the Yankees to build their own stadium in the Bronx after their rivals across the Harlem River, the New York Giants, were threatening to evict them. In the first game at Yankee Stadium, April 18, 1923, Ruth hit the first home run at the Stadium, a three-run shot to help defeat his former team, the Boston Red Sox, 4-1. Boston Red Sox first baseman George Burns got the first hit ever in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees also won their first World Series during the Stadium’s inaugural season, a rare coincidence that would not occur again until the St. Louis Cardinals did it in 2006. – Wikipedia

New York Yankees Official Site

Major League Baseball Official Site

Click on the pictures for a Bird’s Eye View or an Aerial View using Virtual Earth

Looking for more?  Check out the rest of our Stadium Aerial Views or narrow it down to only the Baseball Stadium Aerial Views

Technorati Tags: MLB,Baseball,Stadium,Virtual Earth,New York Yankees

The Jell-O Museum and Gallery in LeRoy New York Aerial View

New York

Tourist Attraction

Jell-O

Museum

Virtual Earth

The Jell-O Gallery has a large new exhibit that reflects Bill Cosby’s influence over thirty years.
