At the time, numerous modernization projects were transforming Kansas City including the opening of Kansas City International Airport, Bartle Hall and Kemper Arena. In 1976, a new section opened for America’s Bicentennial called Bicentennial Square. Three mascots also accompanied Worlds of Fun in the early days: Sam Panda, Grrrtrude the Lovable Gorilla, and Dan’l Coon.

In 1982, ten years after Worlds of Fun’s opening, Oceans of Fun (at the time the largest water park in the world) opened next door. However, it would take another ten years before the two parks were linked. – Wikipedia

Mr. Busch took his idea for a new stadium in downtown St. Louis to city officials and civic leaders. Their interest in a major redevelopment of the downtown area and the idea that a new stadium could serve as the focal point for their efforts, paved the way for the laying of groundwork for the project.

In 1964, ground was broken, and on May 12, 1966, Busch Stadium officially opened as the new home of the St. Louis Cardinals. In a 12-inning inaugural, the Cardinals defeated the Atlanta Braves, 4-3. – Official Site

It is notable in that it had unique architecture in an era where building multisport “cookie-cutter” stadiums was commonplace. Many consider Kauffman Stadium the finest ballpark built during the middle of the 20th century, and some say the stadium rivals many modern facilities as well. Although the stadium is only 34 years old, it is the eighth-oldest stadium in major-league baseball, as a result of the construction of a number of new stadiums in the 1990s, most of which replaced said “cookie-cutter” facilities.
