Spartan Stadium represents a tribute to Michigan State’s football past and a vote of confidence in its future. A $64 million expansion project completed prior to the start of the 2005 football season features the addition of nearly 3,000 seats, including 24 suites and a 193-seat press box, bringing the current stadium capacity to 75,005. “The Spartan” statue has been relocated to the atrium of the new structure. The 200,000-square-foot addition also houses the MSU Alumni Association, University Development and other units. Michigan Stadium, nicknamed The Big House, is the football stadium for the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. UM Stadium has often been called “The Carnegie Hall of all Sports” and is also known as the House that Yost built.It was built in 1927, at a cost of $950,000 and had an original capacity of 72,000. Prior to playing football at the stadium, the Wolverines played on Ferry Field. Today, Michigan Stadium has an official capacity of 106,201, due to renovations for the 2008 season. The stadium previously had a capacity of 107,501 spectators. The football game attendance often exceeds 111,000 when band members, stadium staff, and others are added. Detroit Lions – Ford Field Aerial and Bird’s Eye View

Ford Field, the new home of the Detroit Lions, is comprised of approximately 1.85 million square feet with four levels of suites, a level of club seating, and a ground level designated for restaurants, concessions and retail.

The unique design incorporates the old HudsonΓÇÖs warehouse (established in the 1920ΓÇÖs) as part of the industry-leading sports and entertainment development that will include banquet facilities, restaurants, office space, retail services, food courts, lounge areas and all private suites.

The $500 million complex boasts a seven-story atrium within the warehouse. At the end of the atrium (the southeast corner of the stadium) is a glass wall, which provides a picturesque view of the Detroit skyline.

Cedar Fair’s Michigan’s Adventure Aerial and Bird’s Eye Views

The park was originally founded as the Deer Park, a petting zoo, in 1956. In 1968, Roger Jourden purchased the park and began selling off the deer and purchasing attractions, eventually renaming it Deer Park Funland. In 1988, Jourden added the Wolverine Wildcat roller coaster. At this time, he changed the name to Michigan’s Adventure. In 1991 he opened WildWater Adventure, a water park. The park was bought by Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. in 2001and has become a major Michigan attraction. Michigan’s Adventure is the only surviving thrill park in the state of Michigan. (Boblo Island park, west of Amherstburg, Ontario near Detroit, was closed in 1993. Although in Ontario rather than Michigan, it is often thought of as the last of the Detroit parks.) The park features seven roller coasters, including the critically acclaimed “Shivering Timbers” (a high speed wooden out and back roller coaster), a common “Corkscrew” coaster, and a suspended looping coaster, “Thunderhawk”. The park also includes a number of “flat rides” such as the “Scrambler” and “Flying Trapeze”. – Wikipedia

Detroit Tigers – Comerica Park Aerial View

In April of 2000, The Detroit News produced a commemorative section on the Detroit Tigers’ first game at their new home, Comerica Park. A quote from the headlining story read as follows:

“Comerica Park is expected to make the Detroit Tigers part of baseball’s nouveau riche…”

Those who have visited the ballpark agree with the expectations. A carousel. A ferris wheel. A mammoth water feature in center field that can be choreographed to any music. a decade-by-decade pedestrian museum enveloping the main concourse. But wait, there is also a field with a game being played as well. These are but a few examples of what Comerica Park introduced to fans visiting downtown Detroit in the summer of 2000.

Groundbreaking for the $300 million project took place on October 29, 1997. More than 60 percent of the financing is private, with the rest contributed from public sources. In the time since groundbreaking, the design has continued to evolve. The resulting goal realized is a combination of a classic design for the seating area with amusement and entertainment features that are unique to Comerica Park. – Official Site

PGA Tour: Oakland Hill Country Club Golf Course Aerial View

When the South Course of Oakland Hills was formally opened on July 13, 1918, it already enjoyed a certain degree of prestige. After all, the course was designed by the foremost golf course architect of his day – Donald Ross and the Club had engaged, as its first professional – Walter Hagen who had already won the United States Open. The enjoyment of country club life in those days was pretty well restricted to the golf course. The “Clubhouse” was the Miller farmhouse on the North side of Maple Road and the old chicken coop served as Walter Hagen’s pro shop. During early 1955 some people at Flint Golf Club began talking about the idea that there should be another private golf club in the Flint area. Demand for membership at the Flint Country Club was already greater than the facilities available. Therefore, late in 1955 or early 1956 on a Saturday afternoon, a group of five men met at Chuck KellyΓÇÖs house on Blanchard in Flint to start the wheels in motion to build another private golf course and club. These five were: Chuck Kelly, Homer Strahle, Bill Gregor, Ed Titus and Vic Ryden. Also present was attorney Bob MacDonald. – Official Site

Michigan International Speedway Aerial Photos

Well the aerials aren’t that good around Michigan International Speedway, but there are some good Bird’s Eye photos – even some with the drivers there testing again.

The track is nestled on more than 1,400-plus acres in the Irish Hills of southeastern Michigan. Groundbreaking took place on September 28, 1967. Over 2.5 million yards of dirt were moved to form the D-shaped oval designed by Charles Moneypenny, who previously designed the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway. The original layout included infield and exterior roads, which could be combined to form a single 3.1-mile interior/exterior road course, or divided into separate 1.9-mile interior/exterior road courses. The road courses were designed by Formula One great Stirling Moss and are still used on a limited basis for passenger car testing by area law enforcement agencies. The last interior road course race was held in 1984, and the last time the exterior road course was used was in 1973.
