This first phase included the east and west stands, which seated about 12,000. Seven years later (1931), the sides were extended upward to accommodate an additional 10,000 fans, raising the capacity to 22,000. In 1936, the stadium seating capacity was increased to 46,000, with the addition of 24,000 seats in the north end, making Tiger Stadium into a horseshoe configuration. It was designed in 1967 by the New Orleans modernist architectural firm of Curtis and Davis, who also designed the main branch of the New Orleans Public Library (1956-58). The Superdome is the current home of the NFL’s New Orleans Saints.

The Superdome is the largest fixed domed structure in the world, but it lost its title as the largest domed structure when the Georgia Dome in Atlanta was completed in 1992. (Both the Superdome and Georgia Dome were surpassed in size by London’s Millennium Dome in 1999.) Nonetheless, its structural steel frame covers a thirteen-acre expanse. Its 273-foot (83 m) tall dome is made of a Lamella multi-ringed frame and has a diameter of 680 feet (210 m). – Louisiana Superdome – Wikipedia

Superdome Home Page

New Orleans Saints – Home

New Orleans Saints Team Page

NFL.com – Official Site of the National Football League

Use the interactive map below to pan and zoom around the Aerial View or Bird’s Eye View of the stadium.  Make sure and check out the rest of the NFL Stadium views to find another team’s home field!

Link to Live Maps

Technorati Tags: NFL,New Orleans Saints,Louisiana Superdome,Virtual Earth,Stadium,NFC South

In Flight: Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport Plane Landing

In Flight

Louisiana

Airplane

Airport

Baton Rouge

Virtual Earth

There is a small jet that got caught in the photo coming in for a landing at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport.
