Originally named KSU Stadium, the facility was built at a cost of $1.6 million and financed from student fees, athletics gate receipts and contributions. The stadium opened its doors Sept. 21, 1968, with a 21-0 shutout of Colorado State . The original seating capacity was set at 35,000, and an expansion in the summer of 1970 added 4,000 permanent bleachers on the east side and 3,000 temporary bleachers on the west side.

Kansas will initiate its 84th season of football at Memorial Stadium this fall with an overall home record of 209-199-16.

Recognized as the first stadium built on a college campus west of the Mississippi River, Memorial Stadium is the seventh oldest collegiate stadium in the nation. Located at the north base of Mt. Oread at 11th and Maine streets in Lawrence, it has a capacity of 50,071.

The Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals played the inaugural game at Arrowhead Stadium on August 12, 1972. Although the facility lacks some of the modern accoutrements of recently-constructed stadia and discussions about potential renovations are underway, Arrowhead remains one of the nationΓÇÖs top venues for fans to experience the excitement of collegiate or NFL football.
